Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering: Second Commission Report

Although this is more the province of my colleague and ex-pupil Alex Khan than it is mine as he covers the topic in chambers (he is, incidentally, also the biotech correspondence for the EIPR), I notice that the Patent Office has taken advantage of the publication of the EC Commission's second report on the legal protection of biotechnological inventions pursuant to art 16 (c) of Directive 98/44/EC (the Biotech Directive) to publish a new note on biotechnological inventions and a commentary on the report. The report does not actually seem to have said very much save that it was commissioning more research into DNA patenting and stem cell patenting.
